Michel Lebrun’s biography
(born 31 January 1949, Belgium) is President of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) as well as a local councillor in Viroinval (Belgium).
After graduating in Philosophy and Literature at the Catholic University of Louvain in 1970, his political career began in 1977 when he was elected as deputy mayor of Viroinval town council (Belgium).
Mr Lebrun's parliamentary career began in 1987 when he was elected to the Chamber of Representatives in the Belgian Federal Parliament. One year later he became head of the Christian Democratic group. Since 1995 he has been member of the Walloon Parliament, of which he has been vice-president since 1998. He is also a member of the Parliament of the French Community. From 1992 to 1999 he was Minister of Higher Education, Research and International Relations in the French Community, before serving as Minister for Planning, Infrastructure, Transport and Telecommunications in the Walloon Government.
He became Member of the CoR in 1994 and has held a number of positions in the institution over the last twenty years. In June 2014 he was elected President of the CoR till the Assembly's next term of office (February 2015), taking over the presidency from Valcárcel Siso.
